I AGREE with whoever that says that building a new Parliament House, whether in Putrajaya or behind his backyard, is a waste of money.

So, kudos to the MCA for disagreeing with the proposal to build a new RM800-million Parliament House in Putrajaya.

Yes Dr Chua Sooi Lek, I agree with you 100% that it’s a sheer waste of public funds. I would go a step further. It’s sheer bone-headedness.

Whoever that originated the proposal should have his head examined. Or maybe he sees something that we don’t – like money to be made on the side.

This is not only bone-headed, but also irresponsible, especially at the time when the people are being bombarded with the scary stories about subsidy cutbacks and the country going bankrupt like Greece.

I must frankly say that whoever compared or likened Malaysia to Greece has to be numskull. Reduce subsidy by all means, especially to the rich and the billion-ringgit industries, but to compare Malaysia to Greece to justify the cuts is daft.

This is the problem when we have too many loud-mouthed talkative jabbering ministers and high officials. When they see the reporters they go gaga and shoot their mouths off.

Do we really need a new Parliament House? Really we don’t. In fact we should cherish the present historic structure and forever keeps it as our Parliament.

Maybe we should ask the brilliant minister (or ministers) who proposed the new Parliament House, how many times had the British Parliament or the Capitol Building moved in their hundreds years of history?

Or maybe the people who made the proposal are not numskulls at all. Maybe they see what we the country yokels don’t. They see $$$$$$ signs in the proposal!

Dr Chua said: “There is no need for a Parliament building costing RM800mil in Putrajaya which is a sheer waste of public funds which could be better utilised for projects benefiting the rakyat.

“This is especially so when the Government is urging Malaysians to reduce expenditure to have a balanced budget.”

He pointed out that the present Parliament House, which was built in 1962, should not only be preserved as a heritage building but should also be proudly occupied by all parliamentarians.

Well put Dr Chua. And I am sure he could not or would not say so if he’s a minister. So kudos to Dr Chua for remaining just a party leader.
